Hello fellow JuNoWriMos!

I’ve participated in NaNoWriMo and won, so I’m familiar with the set up of the WriMo concept, which is exactly why I signed up for JuNoWriMo. Honestly, I wish we had a WriMo every third month. I’d be a prolific writer then!

Nelson and Cora – The Journey is my planned JuNoWriMo story. This is the second book in a trilogy. The first book, Nelson and Cora – The Beginning, was my NaNoWriMo novel. If all goes according to plan (cue the maniacal laughter), the last book in the trilogy will be my NaNoWriMo novel for this year.

Spoiler Alert!

Nelson and Cora – The Journey picks up the story of the two protagonists – Nelson and Cora – after they’ve made the decision to be together, despite being disowned by both of their families. In the middle of this decision, Nelson’s family is dealing with the news that the sheriff is on his way to the McGinnis Plantation to arrest Nelson’s father, Randall McGinnis, for killing a young man who is close friends with Cora’s family because the man was a supporter of the Reconstruction Movement and loyal to the Union. Nelson’s brother, a lawyer, has gone to help their father, but everyone knows that Randall McGinnis will not come in and this show down with the sheriff will likely end in another killing.

Cora and Nelson know that in order for them to have any kind of life, they will have to leave Kentucky and their families and people who know their families far behind.

Nelson makes plans to go to Texas and carry Cora along with him. President Johnson has just declared that the rebellions in Texas finally are at an end. It is still very much lawless country, but Nelson believes that if they can just make it there, they can build a life and a future together.

This novel focuses on their journey from Kentucky to Texas in 1866.

The first book in the trilogy – Nelson and Cora – The Beginning. This novel focuses on these two characters as they come to terms with their attraction to each other and the ramifications that their relationship will have with their families.

Nelson and Cora – The Journey is the second book.

Nelson and Cora – The Founding will be my NaNoWriMo book. It will revolve around Nelson and Cora and where they settle.

This trilogy – Nelson and Cora – is tied to my other novel, Josephine: Red Dirt & Whiskey. The trilogy acts as a prequel to Josephine, which is set in northeast Texas during the Great Depression.

My JuNoWriMo goals:

1) Exceed the 50k word count requirement.

2) Finish the novel

3) Keep up with my blog

4) Not fall off the face of the earth 🙂

I’d love to connect with other JuNoWriMos and readers!
